The first thing I want to talk about Laplace is the food. Really good food. I rarely feel satisfy with drink, food and service, but I would be very happy to give other people my strongly recommend about food and drink here. They are not perfect but different and special.
I'm not Western, so I dont think my comment about Western food is exactly with people have Western taste. However, talking about Vietnamese food here, they are delicious. All Vietnamese dishes are pretty popular such as bun cha, bun bo, com rang,... However, they are totally different with the same kind of such traditional dishes. The same name, but different taste :)
My favorite dishes are bun cha and bun bo. My favorite beverage is frozen lemon. Strongly recommend to you guys. I usually go there just for lunch or dinner. After 30 mins for that, I leave there.
The reason I just stay there not so long is the atmosphere. I dont feel I have my own space with friends in a small table. It's even not easy to move from this side of table to another side. It's very easy to hear the conversation of the table which right next to you. Sometimes I dont want to talk to my friends because of that. Dont have private space enough. I hate it. Besides, the decoration is bad. It's just like a normal house with few political posters. La Place decoration seems worse than my house. Remember that La Place in those pictures above is old La Place, not the current one. The old one is better than the current a lot.
Staffs are ok. They are friendly, have good English (at least can remember and get the order exactly). They can remember regular customers pretty good (they still remembered me after around 2 years I hadn't come there).
I vote 3 stars for La Place. They missed a star from me because the decoration is so bad.

I heard about this place from a few guide books and I heard good reviews about it, so I decided to give it a try. Seeing as it was just located around the corner I decided to have a look. The menu looked good, so I ordered a 'La Place breakfast' and a coffee. When It came out I thought it was some sort of joke, the eggs were not cooked properly, the bacon was not bacon but a stringy line of fat, it was cold, the bread was stale, and they only gave me half a cup of coffee! don't go here whatever you do....

Having come to Hanoi for several years now, I always thought La Place was one of the better places to eat, the menu was interesting, good, friendly service and I like the decor and doodling on the placemats! But unfortunately coming here this time around the staff (not the same staff as last year) were not so polite to me) and the food standards have slipped somewhat to say the least! Its still a nice atmosphere upstairs but I think there are much better places to eat now! ;)

I really enjoy La Place. For its location, its surprisingly calm and quiet. I enjoy the view from the second floor, and LOVE sitting on the "roof terrace" when its not too hot. I love the ginger-lemon-mint tea, and, despite terribly inauthentic, the "strawberry tiramisu" was really delicious. I have to take off a star because the "hamburger" i ordered was more like a pile of burned rubber on a bun. So, as a whole, I recommend La Place, but under no circumstances should you order a hamburger from here!
