During my first stay in Hanoi this place was a regular haunt.
Somehow though I got it into my head that while it had been great back then, nowadays Hanoi had plenty of better options.
And then I returned and I realised how great it still was.
Huge menu, really good quality baked goods. Staff, though shy at first, will recognise you with a smile when you visit a second time.
Their stack of cheese and ham toasties only take a minute to warm up before they're on your plate. They're addictive. Try stopping after one - you can't.
The great yoghurt, the fabulous banana cake, sausage rolls - not to mention plenty of Vietnamese options too.
Really good. Really cheap. Really worth a visit.

For me, for now, this place represents something wonderful about Hanoi.....lazy hours spent drinking thick, delicious coffee, hot chocolates and croissant for breakfast at 12, intermittent savoury treats, watching the slice of world outside the door, fast, happy service, a clock that chimes like Big Ben on the hour (my record is hearing it 4 times in one sitting). If I was a poet, you'd probably find me here with a notebook. But I'm not. The yoghurt is famously recommended by those that like yoghurt. I like yoghurt. Catherine Deneuve likes yoghurt. I might write a poem about yoghurt.....

My new favourite place in Hanoi.
The coffee is fantastic, and the yoghurt is deliciously sour. Buy some to take home for breakfast and every morning you'll feel just like Catherine Deneuve.
The western menu options are exactly the kind of thing I crave here (a cheese and tomato toasted sandwich, savory pastries, a nicoise salad etc) and really hit the spot in the category of food-I-never-dreamed-of-getting-excited-about-before-living-in-Vietnam.
The desserts (chocolate cookie, cream and raisin scroll, banana cake etc) taste so home-made that I find myself ordering a glass of milk to enjoy with them in some nostalgic throwback to a fantasy childhood I didn't actually have.
The atmosphere is great: clean, comfortable and friendly.
And thanks to Kinh Do Cafe, Catherine Deneuve will forever make me think of yoghurt.

Old as it is, but pastries and yohurt taste excellent.
Have been customer for more than 10 years now and still coming regularly, sts just for a take-away bread w' butter.
The shop now serves also lunch and dinner courses.
The only set back is the price is a bit high compared locally... but hi-price = hi-quality!
