I’ve been here before many a time, long ago we used to go here to celebrate the end of each school term. But I changed who I was teaching with, and this habit dropped by the wayside, I hadn’t been for ages. We went by just after Tet was over, but not everywhere was open yet. All up and down Ngoc Khanh, this was the only place open. Unfortunately, they jacked up the price crazily because of this (only found out at the end of course), and slapped on a Tay tax as well, with our bill coming in more than 5 times the usual price. Some of this augmentation came from ridiculous baloney we’d never heard before - because the nem was cut in 2, we had had 2, not one, and because there were two glasses on the table, we’d had two beers (even though there was only one bottle, and the ice untouched in one glass).
This sort of malarkey, combined with sub-standard meat compared to normal, one with a twist of wire from the metal holding things and the iridescent sheen of soap and bubbles still in the bowls really made us wish we had gone home and just had a sandwich.
It is a shame, as I had fond memories of this place, that’s why I’m giving it two stars not one. We won’t be back any more, after all it is not like you’re starved for choice in this part of town for Bun Cha.
Another respectable place to satisfy my craving for noodles, aromatics, pork burgers and bacon.
The nem here were expertly cooked, large and crispy. Not super-crabby, though.
This place is just meters away from Bun Cha Tasty Number 1, and at 45,000 for cha and 2 nem it's only a little cheaper.
This is probably a one-off defect, but I had a bit of bone in one of my pork burgers and that's enough to lose them a star.
