Finding this place wasn’t easy (that will teach me for not reading the full location description before I set off), but I heard that the baguettes were good so I persevered, the actual entrance is on Tho Xurong which is the next street over from Au Trieu. In fact when facing the front of St. Joseph by the railings there is an alley on your right, walk down here, turn left and go about 15-20 meters down as Tom Tom says “you have reached your destination”.
Ordering lunch was easy as the serving girl was very friendly and spoke impeccable English and asked me if I was eating in and after I ordered asked me to sit upstairs where they had a small but nice clean room with 3-4 tables to sit at and a small balcony (too small for any tables though). My order took about 5 minutes to appear.
Food wise I ordered baguette #6 - Van Mieu Street ( aka Crumbed chicken breast, sliced tomato, lettuce and lemon mayonnaise) and a Banana Lassi (Yogurt drink). The baguette was very good and similar to what I have had in many cafes in Europe and my only criticism would be that it was a tad too salty but did hit the spot. My drink had a good consistency and tasted like many a Lassi I have had in the UK (but with Mango instead of Banana).
All in all a very nice lunch, I recommend for a bite to eat in if you are in the area.

Unlike the previous reviewer I like their falafel - perhaps it's not the same as "New York Jew" falafel, but it's neither a new york nor jewish food, so criticizing it because it doesn't mimic the falafel of one american city seems ridiculous, as does making dictatorial rules about what bread it can be served with. If you want to eat New York food, then stay in New York.

I used to work downtown and often met my husband at The Cart for a quick lunch. I love how they've blended typical Vietnamese flavors into healthy sandwiches that are easy to eat. I ordered from them so many times, that I actually could call them up and they already knew what I would order, "Anything on our rye or wheat bread, right?"
I introduced the Cart menu to colleagues at the office and now that the office has moved to West Lake, we still order from the Cart every week for our doctors meetings (doctors wanted to have a healthier option and have fallen in love with the sandwich menu). The Cart delivers more than 25 sandwiches each time and have always done a great job.
Note- for a special treat, try their cakes, which they also deliver. My husband and I got a special gift basket that came from the cart for our wedding that was filled with yummy stuff.

I should point out that my review is not entirely unbiased - both co owners are friends. Martin is a former KOTO colleague of mine.
Feel free to take the review with a bucketload of salt but...it's all true and when I want a sandwich and/or a coffee The Cart is almost always my first choice.
I've noticed that increasingly top end places are spotting a gap in the market for a decent sandwich - and at the other end of the scale there's the street butties.
But for a very solid, freshly made sandwich at decent price then there's The Cart.
It's worth pointing out that you can park a bike right outside and food has always been prepared in under five minutes meaning it's a good quick stop. The location - in a side street near the cathedral - is great too - central but quiet. (They deliver too).
Because most people takeaway the upstairs room is a nice quiet haven to do some reading or even some work. The Cart doesn't have WIFI but all the surrounding hotels do - so take your pick.
Sandwich fillings are so good that I keep changing my favourite: it was the meatloaf sandwich but the crumbed chicken is great too. The potato and dill frittata with tuna is a bit special too. There are also veggie options.
The Cornish pastie is a must try.
The cakes are too good and are (along with a complete lack of exercise) responsible for recent weight gain. But the chocolate and banana muffin is unbeatable. In a world full of franchise coffee house dried out muffins - it's good to be reminded they can actually still be moist and tasty with real fruit.
The Italian coffee is great too. Oh and their hangover juice actually works (best twinned with a bacon and egg sandwich - not actually on the menu but available on request).
Like I said - I'm biased. But it's not friendship alone that keeps me coming back.

I've ordered lunch from the cart every day for the past few months, great selection of sandwiches and juices. Of late the soup is a great winter warmer and the pies are to die for. Think I've pretty much eaten most of the menu and never had a single complaint. Cakes are also great and often I'm too full to eat the cake and so my boys have tucked in as a treat when I get home from the office. Friendly staff who recognise me before I give my name which is great customer service. Quick delivery and hot food delivered hot. Prices are also very respectable and the specials are available through 10am tweets. Maybe one day we'll be able to tweet our orders! Tippety top!
