The only reason they do not get the final star is that the service was quite slow. However, the food was absolutely delicious. I had gnocchi with tomato sauce and mozzarella cheese which was very good, and my friend got the eggplant ravioli, which was just about the greatest ravioli i had ever tasted. and for desert we had shared a tiramisu (it's very large, perfect for sharing) and it was so creamy and flavorful- a perfect way to end a perfect meal.

Truly excellent pizza twice in a row - it's becomming hard not to make pizza from da paolo's a weekly pleasure. Bonus points for the pizza actually being hot when it arrived by delivery and further points for finding our hard to navigate address. Generous high quality ingredients - it would be tough to find a better alternative in London/other big city. The only conceivable minus would be that it's not healthy enough to eat more than once a week!

Disappointing as this place was once great!

Is it me or is Da Paolo getting cheap with the ingredients?

We ordered a Tropicale (aka a Hawaiian) and a Scampagnata (with sausage) for delivery this morning. The pizza arrived cold (we are about 5 minutes from the restaurant). But more troubling was the lack of ingredients on the pizza. Each slice had a small piece of sausage (yes 1) and there was not even enough ham to cover every slice on the Tropicale.

Da Paolo- ham and sausage are not expensive ingredients. Come on guys, give us what we paid for. If you can not give us a decent pizza for your published price, then raise the price rather than skimping way back on relatively inexpensive ingredients.

This is a tough review to write.

A group of four of us joined a larger group at Da Paolo around 8pm-ish. We were seated at a separate table, which was perfectly fine. There was some confusion about the booking which meant we were almost shunted off the table after being seated at it was reserved for someone else, apparently. However, the owner generously invited is to stay where we were and managed the situation pretty well. So we enjoyed a prime table overlooking the lake.

The four of us ordered mains and desserts only accompanied by a bottle of Italian red wine. This was a risk as none of us were Italian wine experts. However, we chose well and enjoyed the wine, particularly after letting it breathe a while as recommended by the owner.

As far as the menu goes, it is quite extensive. Something Italian for everyone. At our table we had a steak, some veal, some ravioli and some linguine. All dishes were pretty good really. My pasta was very tasty - a nice strong pesto sauce with potato and green beans. My wife had a medium steak, apparently. Far from medium though - so rare it was still flopping on the plate. Still, good thing she enjoys live meat! As for the others, the veal looked really good and the ravioli as well - although a really small portion for a main size.

Dessert was a selection of tiramisu, panacotta and apple strudel. I had the tiramisu and it was HUGE. Way too big a serving and really, just chucked on the plate with no imagination or flair. Reasonably tasty but only half-eaten. Our combined bill, including wine, for the four of us came to just under VND2m - which felt like pretty good value for a NYE dinner.

It was only later when things deteriorated rapidly for me. Oh dear. I cannot say if it was the pasta or the tiramisu - but by 1.30am I was getting to know the toilet a little too intimately and thoroughly emptying the contents of my stomach. Very very nasty and made for a sad and forlorn NYE night and NY day. So disappointing.

It is unfortunate because I really did like the restaurant's ambiance, the location and the service. I will not be returning in a hurry but I will in time. I am hoping it was a one-off incident and would not discourage others from trying this place. But, two stars clearly gone for the final wash up, so-to-speak...
