“In a word, awesome. I honestly don't know what I would do if this website didn't exist. A wealth of information that is unparalleled to anything I have seen in many other Asian cities. Downsides? Somewhat strict and counter-intuitive rules regarding posting questions. That and a pool of smug user...”
We just went yesterday with my family and we really have a good time there. The food was good, the quantity more that we expected, and the price was ok.
We ordered a large Hawaiian pizza, was good (but the one from Pizza Hut is better), one starter entree, very good and a lot, one Al Nachos (the nachos were not real nachos, that cost 1 star), but the sauce, meat and cheese were Ok, and one cheese burger, very good too. We paid 1.2 millions and for a good meal for a family of four, I think is fine.
We are coming back and next time we will try the ribs.
I'm always craving pizza and mexican food. I by no means have tasted great pizza but I've had tasty generic fatty pizza and in those terms Al Fresco's deliver (they deliver pizza too btw!) The pizza is great, the onions rings are big and crispy, the calamari rings are yummy. Not to mention the ice cream is AMAZING, the mint chip ice cream is REALLY MINTY, mind blowingly so.
The staff also like to dote on the white folk and or Native English speakers (remember to dish out the English!), so if you're Vietnamese, expect less service.
They have a website, so you can check out the menu there, just google Al Fresco's Hanoi. Delivery almost always takes 40 minutes, so just order and watch some TV.
On first sight I thought the place was not good, simple looking interior, fast food kind of atmosphere.
But, saw some plates running by... awesome amounts of good looking food. Had a terrific pizza, nothing wrong with that! Prices are a little on the expensive side though... but once in a while it is a good place to enjoy western food!
Probably not cool to say you love Al Frescoe's – but I do! And this is the best branch of the chain. It’s a huge restaurant over 3 floors, so even when it’s very busy at the weekends you never feel like you’re on top of each other. In Hanoi it’s a darn sight easier to find a specialist vegetarian restaurant than a no-smoking area and this restaurant has devoted an entire floor, which earns them major brownie points in my book. Another bonus with this branch is that you never get any tourists in here (unlike Nha Tho branch which is heaving with them), just big groups of overly excited Vietnamese, which adds to the fun.
All food is consistently great whether pizza / pasta, Mexican, ribs, salads, and especially their steaks, which for me are some of the best in town. There are also frequent diner cards, so that you can collect stamps for future discounts.
I’ve eaten here many times now, and only ever had one small problem. Staff were very apologetic, they rectified the problem immediately and in a very pleasant manner, and I then wasn’t charged for the item in question. One way of testing if a restaurant is really good of not is to see how they cope with any customer problems, and this was handled perfectly.
Their delivery service has saved me from many a night of starvation in the couch slobbing wilderness! After your first delivery they give you a delivery card with a unique number on it, so when you order again they don’t have to take all your address details down again and their delivery guy can find you more easily. Genius!
There are brilliant pizza deals on deliveries, currently on Tues and Fri, and unfortunately Al Frescoe's have become a victim of their own success, as they are now struggling to meet demand, with this week’s Tue night delivery taking 1hr 15m (but they did warn me beforehand). This doesn’t detract from how great Al Fresco's are, and I know that they are actively trying to sort this out and hope that they come up with a solution soon.
