“Mr.T is the man! He has a load of places around Ba Dinh and Dong Da, and helped us to find a place quickly and efficiently. We wanted to change a few things with the contract, so he negotiated with the landlord without any trouble. His English is really good, and he's more than happy to give ti...”
I have to give this cinema full marks because you CAN ACTUALLY watch a film here and have the entire cinema all to yourself.
Let's face it, the most annoying thing about Megastar are all the brats on their mobiles continually blabbing and driving you to insanity with their constant drivel. I get it, I get it, they don't need to hear the film because they can read the subtitles but for most of us unworthy expats, reading Vietnamese is not our thing, so surprisingly, we actually enjoy LISTENING to it as well.
I saw The Fighter last Wednesday at 2pm and I was the only one in the place. My own private cinema.
Sadly it was a little bit different for Thor at the weekend, but the moral of the story is to avoid weekends and bring a taser should anyone start to interrupt your film experience.
At 40,000 VND I cannot imagine money better spent. Everything is new, and the seats are very comfy. Go now before the trend-setting masses start to accumulate there once it becomes fashionable for them to teeter around with their fake Burberry shit.
Oh and on a final note, if you are looking for some extra entertainment, you should visit the Big C in the basement and try to exit it via the entrance. The 5ft tall security guard will try to rugby tackle you to the ground but you can dispense with him quite easily as you are a LARGE expat. If all else fails, feel free to resort to the 1 inch Bruce Lee punch. Nothing can stop you - You are Thor!
I completely lost my temper today. After checking their website (http://www.platinumcineplex.vn/en/showtimes.html) , I decided to take our 3 kids for The Muppets, which were supposed to start at 9.45am. We arrived at The Garden and tried to find our way to the cinema, like the other 100 young people and mothers with kids. Guards were blocking the staircases and the lifts were switched off. There were posters advertising the cinema with show times, Underworld was staring at 9.30 am, The Muppets at 9.45 as advertised on their official website. I asked the guards and staff how to get to the cinema: Nobody cared, they even laughed at my face and have been very unpolite as I tried to figure out, why the stairs and elevators are not open. Some of the students explained to me, that they are delayed and the cinema will open at 10am.....sooooo we waited, my anger raising minute by minute. Then they finaly opened the entrances to the upper floors.I asked the lady behind the desk what time The Muppets start. 9.45 was the answer.
"But now its 10.05am and the entrances were blocked s will it start right now?" I said.
"No it started 9.45." Replied the cashier.
So I asked for somebody responsible...some man came and said that the movie started already, I wondered why it started without any people in the cinema.
The man told me: "Sorry it is my fault."
Well I yeled for another 2 minutes and left the Cinema. I really enjoy these moment after returning from a holiday in Bangkok to Vietnam. Home sweet home. Funny thing, I was the only one who cared: these other people went for the movie Underground even if it started 45min ago .....My 12 year old daughter told me I should seriously consider to see some specialist. Well I feel a bit better posting this review here.
Finally opened! well behind schedule but we My Dinh dwellers will take it. A perfectly functioning cineplex in the badlands of West Hanoi is just what we needed. The movies are good, hollywood, mainstream time wasters. No fancy, finnish, abstract, art-house fare out here thank you very much! Movies are generally in english with vietnamese subtitles. Im very happy about this.
Only 4 stars as the popcorn machine isnt up and running yet
Personally for me, I much prefer this place to the Megastar. You know why ?
- It's new
- It's cheaper
- The staff are friendlier
- The popcorn tastes fantastic
- The movie room itself is nice and small, so you get close access to the screen, and don't have to worry about seating position
- Much less crowded (because it's kinda on the outskirt of town)
It'd lost a star for me because of it location. Too far from home for me, otherwise it's pretty nice
If you like Platinum Cineplex (The Garden)...
