I am glad that I called ahead.
Like the other reviewers, I was in search of some weekend cupcakes for the kids and thought about heading to 151 Thuy Khue. Then, I read the posting which said "custom baked cupcakes made to order" which gave me the inkling that there may not actually be a shop. So, I called and spoke with Mia who could not have been more friendly. She said they bake the cupcakes from home and can deliver.
So, I avoided the 20 minute walk in the midday sun looking for something that does not exist. I can understand the other poster's frustration if I was expecting to come back with yummy cupcakes and only came back drenching wet with sweat.
Anyhow, we placed our first order which will be delivered on Monday. We also looked at Anna's blog at http://cupcakes-by-anna.blogspot.com/ which shows Anna/Mia's passion for cupcakes and how they know what they are doing.
Though we have yet to receive our first batch, 5 stars for the anticipation.

I decided to get a heap of these made for our wedding anniversary, picking a tricky colour for icing (a specific shade of blue) with an arbitrary seeming number of chocolate lettering on top of some. We had over twenty messages back and forth as I dithered, changed my mind, or had to provide clarification because I'd got sidetracked. Since this obviously didn't make it hard enough, at the last minute I changed the location and time for the delivery.
Westlake Cupcakes passed with flying colours, offering useful suggestions, explaining why something I had thought was a good idea wasn’t, and generally putting up with me. Their service was awesome, now onto the food...
The cakes were fantastic. In the end I went with their red velvet cupcakes, which were light and tasty. The flavour lingered on the palate in a good way, and the icing was very striking, the exact colour I was after. We all had a grand time laughing at everyone's tongues after eating them. I didn't get to try the chocolate letters, as they were declared delectable and gobbled down by our niece and nephew almost before I finished setting the cakes out in the configuration I had in mind. The icing holds to its decoratively piped shape well, even with ungentle handling by toddlers and is smooth and creamy.
On the boxes they were delivered in was a label saying that for best results they should be kept in airtight boxes in the refrigerator and eaten within three days, but we just left them in the cardboard boxes, helping ourselves as we wanted one. I had the last couple this morning for breakfast (don't judge me! You'd do the same if you had access to them) and they were still great, five days later.
I will definitely be talking to them again when a special occasion warrants it, they were magnificent.

Just received our first order of 24 cupcakes, 12 red velvet and 12 choc orange.. Having tried the Red Velvet, I cant wait to try the orange. The cake was delicious and moist, just the right amount of butter icing.. Cant wait to see what other things the ladies come up with on their return from summer break!

I love cupcakes and there are very few good ones in Hanoi (actually I never knew of any good ones since I arrived in Hanoi) until Westlake Cupcake of course. I love the Red Velvet and the Apple Cinnamon cupcakes - but my most favourite(so far) was their Red Velvet mini-cupcakes with Spanish chocolate ganache (chocolate bought by the baker all the way from Barca) which was absolutely toe-curling. Now this is real baking!
