Went here about a week ago for a drink with an old CELTA classmate. The food was decent and the beer was beer. The atmosphere was friendly and setting was lovely.
Also met the owner of the place who is an American who has been in Hanoi since 1992! Someone on staff had a birthday and they gave us cake. The cake was pretty good but is unfortunately unavailable when someone doesn't have a birthday.
Great spot to have a drink with friends, will certainly go back.

Ronaldo's has a great lakeside location, tasteful spacious layout, with friendly accommodating hosts.
They have a 9m long "island" bar with seating all the way around, I imagine 30 people could sit comfortably around this bar to watch a sporting event (lets hope they get the rugby word cup hooked up) . There is a new pool table with plenty of elbow room, big screen tv's, well ventilated, good sound system (not too loud). Also comfortable lounge seating and some outdoor lakeside tables.
The owners mentioned to me that they are still training up the staff and ironing out the wrinkles associated with starting a new business, however we found the service and hamburgers to be fine for us.
A big new Bar and Grill in Tay Ho .. This joint has a lot of potential and is worth visiting.

Forget about the other bars in Hanoi that you might think is the worst bar because this is it! The location is nice...next to the lake and all that but the decor inside is horrendous! It's full on neon signs and shit. The wait staff's English is poor. The place was practically empty when we went there on a Friday night. It's huge and felt like Batman's Batcave. We had to ask three times for a menu for each of us. Food consisted of burgers, hotdogs, chilli and fries. It is what it is...a Vietnamese interpretation of what a sports bar is...except empty.

Thanks for your well-written and objective criticisms of Ronaldo's! As we have done since opening six months ago, we will always strive to improve our service. A portion of our staff is from the Koto School, which trains underprivileged Vietnamese street youth, and their English is generally good; so it may have been one of the other young Vietnamese people we've hired that caused your frustration. We apologize for that; English is a difficult language to master! As I said, our intent is always to improve the things we can and we'll continue to do that.
For the record, and for the benefit of our regular and future patrons, I am the American owner of Ronaldo's. The idea for the bar, including the decor, was mine, not the idea of a Vietnamese person. Sorry if the bar's interior clashes with your tastes. :-)
About the menu, you might have missed that we have many more than the four items you listed in your review. Our full menu is listed on our website at www.ronaldos.vn. We admit we have a relatively limited menu compared to a restaurant, but it's a bar and the idea is to provide bar snacks. Just want to ensure other readers know that our menu does have more than the items you listed above.

While I'm at it, after a successful first six months we've reduced our drink prices as a way to say thanks to our patrons. Why not come to Synergy's open mic night this Friday and check out our drinks at these prices? Good music, good food, good drinks, good fun!

Went there and was not impressed. This place has to potential to be amazing (nice location by the lake, HUGE bar) but still... To me it looks like a cheap strip club from Canada's countryside cities.
The staff was a bit rude, not smiling, and the bartender literally GRABBED the money from my hands as I was about to give it to her.
And the decor. I'm sorry but, yeah...cheap strip club look (they even have poles! but ok, they aren't for dancing...)

Been to Ronaldo's Bar twice now, last night and the first time about 3 weeks ago, and will definately be going back.
Coming from a hospitality background ourselves, we were extremely surprised that Ronald (the owner) remembered us from our first visit - and even got our names right. For us, this shows a respect for his customers and that he values them.
After our visit last night, we did notice that the cocktail list had shrunk to just 3 listings and were a bit disappointed. Ronald then informed us that the previous cocktail maker had left, so instead of serving bad cocktails he had reduced the list to the ones that the new girl could make well. As she improves the list will grow again. Why can't other businesses work like this? Would save a lot of bad reviews.
Anyway, as others have said the service and atmosphere is great Prices are on the dearer side but not over the top. We haven't tried the food yet, and this is the only reason we haven't given it 5 stars.
Ronald is a very approachable owner and it would appear that he is willing to listen to his customers on ways to improve things. We really hope that this continues and the places thrives as it is such a great little venue. Give it a go!
