Ah maybe because its nearing Tet but i got 4 friends that got completely ripped off! They asked for a taxi to go across the Chuong Duong bridge. It normally costs from the old quarter around 60 000. The taxi driver took the super scenic route! 195 000 dong later they got to there destination which was only 4 km away!

When my friend was counting his money to pay, the taxi driver then took money out of my friends wallet "helping him count" and then slipped it into his own wallet(his own fault i guess). He then denied that my friend had paid enough!

Used them before and they were great! However the last 2 time i have used them, they have ripped me off. Learnt from my mistake!

Helping towards there TET bonus i guess...

Have used Van Xuan taxis on a number of occasions. Pretty reliable company, all small and quite cheap taxis. 9 times out of 10 they are really good and very fair, taking direct routes to wherever I needed to go.

Once I picked up an obviously dodgy version, using the name but clearly not legit. In these cases, stop the cab and get out. If you see the meter starting to race, stop the cab. If the driver smells of booze, either don't get in or stop the cab. Pick up a taxi a street or two away from the lake and all should be fine.

On the whole though, Van Xuan is a trustworthy company.

I have never had any bad experience with a Van Xuan taxi in my four months of stay here in Hanoi. Their meters are always correct and their drivers use the shortest route even if you are a foreigner. For all the good recommendations for Hanoi Taxi and Mai Linh (in tourist pamphlets, maps and other materials given at Hapro Tourist Center), there were still some instances when their drivers would take the circuitous route and their taxi meters run faster than normal. These drivers probably think that I am a tourist and do not know the right route for my destination or that I do not know the standard fare I should pay for certain destinations. (My frind and I even called Mai Linh to complain about their erring driver but nothing happened). But with Van Xuan (thank God), I haven't had that experience. It's always been pleasant. too bad, there are not too many Van Xuan taxis and their telephone operator does not really speak English well so I rarely call them. Otherwise, i will always ride Van Xuan

Started using these taxis about a month ago after reading the reviews and having a few run-ins with dodgy taxis. Provided you can comfortably telephone one and communicate your address in Vietnamese, this is definitely the way to go. A maximum 10 minute wait is all I have ever had, even during rush hour. I know my way very well around Hanoi and they have always taken the direct route so would fully recommend them. The driver will call you back when he is outside your house if you are not there waiting for him too. Great service!

After a few really bad experiences with taxis during our first month here, we became extremely picky with the taxi companies we would take. Taxi Van Xuan is one of the companies that we will still use. We have used them many times, and so far have never had any bad experiences with them. The drivers take the most direct route to our location and do not rig the meters. Really, in this city, that is all I can ask for!
