It is the amount being paid that I ma querying here, not the company's ethics of promising to pay back after 6 months ( they might as we...

Can my employer cancel my work visa if I end the work contract early? What about them going to the police to prohibit me from working anywhere else? Also, do they have the authority to freeze my bank account? What can they do if I end the contract early? I've heard many horror stories but not sure if they're true or even possible.

Immigration just went back to the old rates for Americans, and VOA providers like www.visa4vietnam.com are charging the same fees as previously (same as any other nationality).

Ok, I'm an American citizen with a 1 year multiple entry visa I got on arrival for $135. I read somewhere that even with the one year visa you still can only stay in Vn for 90 days. Can that be true? Thanks, mj

Hi everyone, Where to find info on all the new visas, especially the visa exemption? I have a visa exemption and I just wanted to extend my stay by another three months. I was told I can't do this anymore, unless I go to my wife's hometown (Haiphong). I live in central Vietnam and I am not really keen on making trips to Haiphong all the time. Any info, options? Thanks.

My wife is Canadian and we made a mistake of not obtaining the police criminal record check before coming to Vietnam. We were advised about the process of getting fingerprints done here and sending them to accredited agencies in Canada however the process seems rather expensive and long. Just wondering if anyone on here has used the name-based check through such companies like www.backcheck.net for purpose of getting the work permit. Any advice would be much appreciated as well. Thank you ! ...

two and a half months ago, I had a visit from Immigration officials in Hanoi who told me my latest 3 month visa extension was fake and that I would have to leave the country and pay a fine. I got my visa extension from the same travel agent that I have used for several years for visa extensions with no problem. My travel agent got a visa extension from the same source as mine for a guy who left the country and returned to VN with no problem. I have tried several times to get a re- entry visa ...

What are the perks of having a temporary residence card over a 1 year working visa? All this is a bit confusing when trying to decide what you truly need between a 1 year working visa or 1 year working permit or a temporary residence card or even a spousal visa. Someone please put some clarity on all of these options & the results that they will produce in order to help newbies. Thanks

Hi everyone, I'm new here as I'm trying to sort some things and move over to Vietnam. I've been an English teacher in Spain for the last 8 years and have had plenty of training and a CELTA Pass A. I'm a Spanish national although I was raised from age 7 to 23 in the USA. I studied in the states and it's going to be impossible for me to go and get my university paperwork legalised there. I'm hoping to sell myself and try to get a work visa based on my work experience. As I've already seen, ...

Myself and a few others have been given a full time job teaching in Hanoi that starts early July. We want to get our visas sorted, though the company said it is fine to get them when we arrive at the airport. Is this the case? Or shall we get them before we leave the UK? If so do we need a business visa or a holiday one to start out with before we get our work permits etc? Thank you in advance, I've never done anything like this before so am very confused so any help would be amazing!!

I am a UK citizen living in Vietnam and marrying my Vietnamese girlfriend next month. We'd like to visit the UK for our honeymoon for 2 weeks so i'm trying to find the right visa. It seems clear i can apply for the standard tourist visa, but also that i should be able to get the EEA Family Permit, which i'd prefer as it's free. Can anyone advise me on this? Thanks.

Hi! I am working here in Hanoi. My husband lives in Thailand he is supposed to come visit me next week but apparently the visa process is changed. He used to be able to go to the embassy and just apply but now they are saying he needs a letter from immigration. HE IS NOT THAI He is from a West African country. Nobody is telling us how to get this letter. We even contacted an agency to get the letter and they haven't replied to us at all. They are also telling us the fees (including the letter...
