I need to renew my visa soon and I want to check with TNH on current costs. I'm a US citizen. I need a 1 year business multiple entry visa. Tourist is cheaper, but is only available for 3 months. Is that right? I'm being quoted $215 plus $135 at the airport. Is this in the ballpark for what others are paying? Thanks
I'll be arriving in Hanoi in less than a month to search for a job teaching English and I was wondering if anyone has advice on what to do when I first get there. There are the obvious things like job searching and apartment hunting, but are there specific places to network (clubs, bars, cafes, etc), tours to go on, and exploring to do that would help me get to know the city a bit better? Also, I'll be on my own, so the places would need to accommodate for this - ie, going to a nightclub on m...
What's the best form of public transport to get to places around Tuyen Quang? We heard that the buses are not very regular and we should hire private cars? Also what places are worth visiting around this area? We are new residents and will be staying near Tuyen Quang city centre for the next few months. Thanks!
A few months ago I had a problem trying to get a re entry visa to VN with no success. In the last 3 days I have heard of 3 more people having the same visa problem as I. Has anybody else had the same problem? Is this a new trend in VN?
TNH - A little help, please. I'm soon to be arriving in Ha Noi on my first trip to VN. A couple weeks later I'll be going from Ha Noi to Ha Giang. I'm having trouble figuring out my best transportation option. Don't want to hire a private driver just for me, that's expensive and piggy. I am concerned that the bus will be cramped (I am very tall), is that true? I've heard about an "executive bus" premium service of some sort, but can't find any real information about it. I've read that the nig...
Hi there, I was wondering: is there anyway to park a motorbike for some days at Noi Bai Airport? I'll be leaving for a few days, and I'm pretty allergic to taxi, so I would like to make the trip from my house to the airport with my own motorbike, then leave it there, and have it there to take me back home when I'll be back. So, does it exist, and, if so, how much does it cost? And is it safe? Thank you for your help.
Anyone traveling back to the USA in the next few weeks? Would like to ask if a package could be mailed by (USPS) for me, will pay for shipping upfront of course. Thank you for looking...
I am an American in Hanoi until early August. I've decided to take a road trip in Japan in late August and have learned I need an International Driver's License in order to rent a car there. Based on my research, the only way to obtain one is to go through AAA and turnaround time is 4-6 weeks, which won't work for me, given the shipping time to Vietnam. Anyone know how an American can get an IDL in Hanoi? Many thanks!
Having recently graduated, I am eager to pursue my long-awaited goal: to combine travelling Asia with teaching ESL. I do not yet hold a teaching qualification, yet I'm looking into courses. As I am inexperienced, I am, of course, intrepid about my first encounter as an ESL teacher. Vietnam is a country I'm intrigued to visit and see this country as ideal to jump-start my escapades. Has anyone any advice based on what I have written? Is Vietnam a good place to start? What area(s) would you rec...
Holiday appartment near HK lake? Does anyone have contacts for an apartment rental in the Old Quarter available for 3-4 weeks in december/january. I've visited Hanoi many times before but this time I'd like to get out of the hotel system. Sorry if there's a whole section on TNH about this - I've had a look around and can't find it. Thank you Geoff
Hello everyone, I have a Thai motorcycle and I wish get an Vietnam Authorization to enter with it. I try today with my border paper, and the Vietnam Police don't let me enter. How can I do ? Best Regards, Arden
I came to Hanoi to find teaching work, but I am more of a small town/small city type of lady and I can tell I wouldn't last here. My ideal location would have: 1. A market for English teachers (a job) 2. Access to nature/mountains (I want to hike every day :) ) 3. An expat community (friends) Does any such place exist? I'm leaning towards heading to Danang, but I've heard good (and bad) things about Haiphong, too. I'm on a tight budget, which makes traveling around to scope places out ...
Hi, does anyone know the cost of a taxi from Hanoi to Ba Vi? Or, do you know if the buses there are full size or the small Vietnamese ones they use sometimes?my dad is visiting and gets very claustrophobic so don't want to put him in one of the tiny local ones
Hi everyone, I am planning a 2-3 day trip to Ba Vi National Park. Has anyone made this trip by bus? If so, I am looking for a suggested route. Several posts online mention taking the local bus 214 from My Dinh station. I have yet to try out the bus system in Hanoi. Any tips/suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks :)
I've just moved to Thai Nguyen, a small city about 80 km north of Hanoi. I'm in desperate need of some English speaking company - does anyone live in Thai Nguyen or frequent the area? Alternately, does anyone have any advice for traveling in North Vietnam?
... is TNH's Q&A forum. If you've got a question about life in Hanoi that you think you should pose to someone in the know, here is the place to do it.
