As a relative newcomer to Hanoi (UK ex pat), can anybody advise as to where I can buy decent cosmetics? And what kind of prices can I expect to pay? Are there European brands (Elizabeth Arden, Max Factor, Clinique, Rimmel, etc etc) or are there any equivalent that are good for fair skin? Thanks in advance :)

Parkson department stores have all of that - there are at least 2 in Hanoi, one is at Landmark 72 Keangnam Tower (look up - it's the tallest building in Hanoi). Here is a list of beauty brands they have:

You will also find the store locator on their website. It's much more expensive here than in UK.

I'm sure you'll also find these brands at Trang Tien Plaza,a high-end mall which re-opened a view months ago. It's on the south east corner of Hoan Kiem lake.

You can search the name of your brands at Trang Tien Plaza's website

Another option is Vincom Megal Mall - Royal City

Prices are more expensive here than in Europe because of high import taxes imposed for cosmetics and beauty care items.

Thanks peeps :) Very much appreciated. I'll check them out. Though no doubt it'll all slide off in this heat. If you see a Jackie Stallone arrangement bouncing through the Old Quarter....that'll be me ;)

Jackie Stallone, always a good look... I'm a bloke, a real honest-to-goodness bloke, and therefore I know absolutely nothing about the subject. The only thing I do know - as everyone else has already said - is that that stuff must be a lot more expensive here, because a Vietnamese friend is always getting me to buy her lipsticks, shampoos etc. whenever I go back to England. She pays me for it mind you, I'm a bloke but I'm not a sap (I know the two things often go together).
