Hanoi, the political capital of Vietnam, is located in the Red River Delta and is also an important cultural centre with many aspiring young artists making the city into one of the most visually appealing places in Vietnam! The city is an eclectic mixture of colonial Parisian grandeur and time...

Finally! a place that delivers what it advertises. Been here about six times thus far.
Wanted to watch the Formula 1 race from Hungary this past weekend and my local cable tv provider only had 24 hr Olympic coverage on ESPN and Star Sports.
Checked the local listings and found that JJ's and the Press Club were advertising live Formula 1 so thought I'd better check them out first. I called the Press Club, no answer, then sent an email as directed on their website promoting the Hungarian Grand Prix. The talented Ms Ngoc in charge of reservations did not answer.
Called the Hilton Hotel, was put through to JJ's and confirmed that the race would be shown. On arrival it was nice to be recognized by the waiting staff (even remembered the brand of Belgian black beer we like - Maredsous) and they informed us that their tradition for Formula 1 races is a free flow of Tiger draft until the first car retires from the race. Music to my ears.
True enough we both had several drafts as the first car did not retire until well into the second half of the race.
As we had had a miserable dining experience over at the Paris Deli,(see my review posted earlier today) we needed to eat so we got the pub menu. Really reasonable prices and an interesting variety of foods.
Noticed that the Korean guests were wolfing down monstrous cheeseburgers but I ordered the ham, cheese and tomato baguette. Also big sized. My friend had the shrimp and mushroom cream bisque. Good grub, tasty and served with 5 star panache.
After the race we enjoyed a game of billiards (always free of charge and hardly anyone there when we have come previously so this place is a regular for after dinner drinks and a quick game or two) and then got the check. Sure enough, all the draft beer was complimentary.
Yes, the place does do drinks at Hilton Hotel prices (regular draft is 80,000 dong which makes our regular bottle of Maredsous a practical bargain at 164,000) but the sports are always on the big screen and the billiard table and the dart board are usually neglected so you can play uninterrupted for several games before anyone else shows an interest.
Top marks for friendly service, comfort, and amenities. A nice quiet place to enjoy an evening, no pressure selling - you can nurse a draft for hours if you just want to watch the sports.

I thought I would drop in early on Saturday evening to see if there was an expat crowd there to watch the Tri-Nations Rugby clash between the Wallabies - Springboks.
Wrong! The large screen TV was set to some Vietnamese telenovela and when I asked the staff if they would be showing the Rugby they had no idea what i was talking about. So then I asked if they were showing the Ashes Cricket (Australia V England). Again - uncertainty.
I finished my draught beer and headed off to Jaspas where it was all happening.
Be warned. This seems to be a "Sports Bar" in name only

Back when the Hanoi darts league was running JJ`s was my teams home ground, we had good times there, great discounts for group events.
its under new management now and the new guy seems keen to get some more dart events going, we had the first competition there 2 weekends ago, some nice prizes for winner and runner up donated by the bar, carton of bud and a bottle of nice whiskey.

its nice atmosphere, great for watching sport programs with a huge screen and nice pool table, service is good with free snacks and very comfy chairs, oh and they do a pretty mean pizza!

ok- so its a typical hotel bar ambience and pretty quiet but it has good drink deals at happy hour. last night we had a bucket of 5 corona's for $25 which in hanoi for premium beer is good.

service is quick and friendly and there is a pool table, because the bar is quiet its normally available which is good news for me as i need all the practice i can get

you also get 3 flavors of popcorn as comp bar snacks, the chilli one is v. nice
