Delicious, genuine and well constructed cafe-style cuisine at a very decent price with a well-stocked selection of beers. Breakfast is great. Dinner is, surprisingly, even better. I love coming here and always seem to want one of their great pasta dishes on a Monday - which is the only day they aren't open.

So why is this place ALWAYS empty? Is it the location? Are we bored with great food? Would people rather pay triple the price to eat at Halia?

In my selfish goal to keep this place running so it can feed my own cravings, I emplore other NHers to visit just a little more that we can ensure this place sticks around. There just aren't enough great brekkie and dinner places at that price range in that part of town. This place needs less chirping crickets and tumbleweeds and more you.

Me swimming from one boat to another hehe

This place is one of my favourite places in Hanoi. I was there today on a rare sunny day and decided to splash out and have the bread, humous and olive oil starter and the aussie steak main course with a beer.

The atmosphere is wonderful and the road is quiet. A nice and odd highlight is the strange number of young western people I see walking past who are certainly too young to be backpackers.

This place is truly a delight!

Thanks to the previous posters for pointing out this hidden gem. As well as the food, which has been reviewed already, they have a great range of beers that I haven't seen elsewhere!

This is a great spot - the food is delicious, great service. It was a treat to have really good pasta and the chocolate mousse is amazing.

As everyone else said, it is really quiet and we were the only table between 7:30 and 9 on a Saturday night... I really hope people start going so that it stays open.

I agree with the other reviewers that Matchbox is definitely one of the best brunch spots in town, particularly when it comes to value for money. The food is fresh and delicious and the staff extremely helpful and attentive.

They lose one star for the ambiance - but that would be much improved by the presence of more customers.
