Perhaps one of the very nicest spots to enjoy a drink in the evening, even if you don't fancy the movie. The bar is in a shady courtyard and serves a variety of cocktails, beers and wines - the Lemongrass Martini is especially good.
The movie programme is varied and management presents a range of esoteric films which are sometimes hit-or-miss in their effect on the audience; a recent fictional movie filmed in Bali in the 1930s, for example, was a narrative disaster but was quite fascinating when viewed as a documentary piece.
Interesting guest speakers and presenters frequently make an appearance.
The box office staff are absolutely delightful, too.
Membership is required for movie-going but after that you can go and see a double bill at the modest price of 50,000VND. One of the best treats in town.

This is one of the great places in Hanoi ensuring that you get to see films that would normally not be shown in this city.
It is run by dedicated volunteers that should be treated with respect and not humiliated by stingy guests.
Yes it says "donation" on the box - but come on, get the point and pay.

I really like this small art house cinema for the themed programs they offer and the special guests who often come to speak about their work. The owner and the staff put a great deal of effort into this venture and their passion shows. My understanding of their nonprofit status and their "suggested donation" is that it's the only arrangement they can have to operate with the necessary government approval. It is understandable that patrons might be upset that their "donations" seem less than voluntary, but I think it is due not to a duplicitous management but rather it is a work around of business-government regulation. And that "suggested donation" is about the only thing that keeps this valuable and relevant non profit running.

A great place! What a nice vibe, and good prices, too. I also got chance to see a film I'd never heard of before. I'll definitely be joining.
