Since the owner is a friend of mine, I wonder whether its appropriate to write a review on Spoon. Then again, I think its fair to have my thoughts said out loud as I also am a customer.
Obviously, I've been to this place many times and each time I feel really warm and welcomed. The staff are friendly and helpful especially the Manager who always keep a smile on his face. ( I really hate it when entering a restaurant/ shop and the staff put on their long face and serving me. Yeah, I know he or she might just have a bad day but hey, don't blame that on me)
I love Asian food, so I tend to try almost all the Asian dishes in Spoon ( well, counting the number of times I've been to Spoon) and especially love the Hainan Chicken rice set and the Korean stirred fried glass noodle with beef. Now that they expand their Vietnamese menu - mostly Hanoi dishes, again I love the Grilled beef in bamboo pipe. May be I'm a beef person but the beef really does taste juicy and tender.
Definitely will keep coming back to Spoon as long as they keep up their good job!
I have been to Spoon a number of times now.Sometimes for a drink at the bar, soemtimes for a meal. I have been impressed by the service and the food. The atmosphere is always good.
The staff are very friendly and helpful. The food is consistently good.
Last night I met some friends there for New Year's Eve. We were intending to have a drink, watch the Sydney fireworks on TV and then go to Truch Bac. But we stayed at Spoon instead.
As usual, the staff greeted us with a welcoming smile and friendly hello. There was live music last night and the performers were really good.
The menu contains both Vietnamese and Western food and last night, because it was New year's Eve, there was a special set menu as well, which we chose. it cost $29 and was really worth it. There were two choices and I chose the menu with lamb. I have been dreaming of lamb roast recently, so I was very happy to see lamb on this menu. It was delicous and beautifully cooked. We were also given bubbly to drink free of charge to help celebrate the New Year.
We watched a fantastic fire-juggling performance as mentioned in one of the other reviews.
We also danced to the music and soon most people were on the floor.
It was truly a wonderful way to celebrate new year, and to complete the evening, staff and customers shared the bubbly and toasted in the new year.
I have met friends there a number of times and when I arrive at Spoon now, they greet me and tell me if my friends have arrived yet. I find it a very welcoming atmosphere.
I just returned from an extremely disappointing evening at Spoon, which is a shame because I really wanted to like it. As was mentioned previously, the decor is hip and modern, but unfortunately the service didn't measure up. Granted we were a large party, our food took over TWO HOURS to arrive, and wasn't particularly good when it finally did. For the price of our meals, I would have expected more. I hope for the sake of future diners, that this was simply an off night.
Went to Spoon last night for a going away party... We were one of two large parties. Not sure what happened but the service was very bad. Took 3 hours to get our meal, most people didn't get their entire meal, and everyone was quite displeased with the entire experience. I enjoyed the atmopshere and the food that I did receive was tasty. Just not sure it is worth the frustration to return. Maybe this will improve with time or with a staffe expansion. As for me, I will not be going back anytime soon.
This is a classy spot. The decor is very well done and the space is beautiful.
Service from the staff was excellent and the food was fantastic! The bar staff put on a fire-juggling-cocktail show which was very entertaining but the electro music the staff played for it definitely did not suit the venue. Spoon in my opinion is not a techno electro type of venue and playing that music before the live-acts broke the atmosphere.
The DJs music while we were eating although was wonderful and perfect for the venue and we loved the live music, true musicianship from them all.
My only complaint is that there was confusion with the vouchers they used for the event. We were shown to a table upstairs and then only told afterwards that we would need to go back downstairs to buy vouchers to pay.
