I can't agree more with Guadalquivir. However, there is one important caution: Traffic around the area is very bad at noon and late afternoon (4 to 7).

The pictures for this sports complex must be really dated because they have switched to an artificial turf soccer field quite a long time ago. It’s a rather strange decision, as the whole complex belongs to the Water Resources University (Dai hoc Thuy Loi). One would think that they must have more than enough water to take care of the grass fields!

Lame jokes aside, I think that this is the best place to play soccer in Hanoi, unless you’re talking about the practice fields that people can rent out outside My Dinh Stadium, where professional soccer teams practice. It’s nice to play on something other than dirt fields, and the size of the fields is larger here, which helps players who need more space like me. I have nothing but praises for the soccer fields here, though they are very popular so booking ahead is highly recommended. Even so, many of the fields here are reserved on a long-term basis, so it’s almost impossible to get the good time slots at 6pm or so.

It can be difficult locating this sports complex at first, but look for the alley with the very metrosexual black and white clothing shop. One secret I’d like to share is if you have turf shoes you’ll have a huge advantage over the people who play with their ubiquitous badminton shoes. On this kind of surface you’ll fall over constantly if you don’t have the right kind of shoes, and most people are not even aware that these shoes exist because Thuy Loi is the only turf field in Hanoi.

So 5 stars for this place without any doubt. I just wish there were more sports complexes like this in Hanoi.
