Description: The Better Life Vietnam initiative was started in the spring of 2010 by Ms. Nguyen Minh Thinh of Hanoi, and the Walter family of the town of Weiterstadt, near Frankfurt, Germany. They met in Hanoi and realized that they have a shared passion to help improve the lives of the poor in Vietnam. Their enthusiasm is contagious, and Better Life Vietnam now includes a growing network of individuals in Vietnam, Europe, and the United States.

Better Life Vietnam was founded with the belief that access to education, healthcare, food, clean water, and a decent quality of life are basic human rights. The founders realized that with so many needs in communities throughout Vietnam, it is important to simply get started by helping some communities with their most basic needs. With that in mind, they established a relationship with the families in Dong Coc Village, with the intention of expanding these efforts to other communities in the future.

Better Life Vietnam (BLV) is a club offers both exciting and insightful cultural exchange opportunities. The club is suitable for individuals from all walks of life including Executives, Native English Teachers, Students and World Travelers. I was impressed when I was told the club is organized by a group of very intelligent and outgoing Vietnamese University students. The club offers Vietnamese language communication group sessions every Saturday afternoon for those aspiring to learn or improve their Vietnamese language communication skills. The meet up’s are very interactive and strive to improve pronunciation and basic speaking techniques. They also take time to tutor and mentor non-Vietnamese speakers through 1-on-1 activities during the group sessions.

I recently attended a field trip organized by BLV. This was an amazing opportunity to spend the day making new friends, practicing Vietnamese, learning to shop for cuisine at a local market and developing a better understanding of customs and traditions. I ended that day refreshed and developed a better understanding of Hanoi through our walks over the Long Bien Bridge and Ceramic Street, the ride to the market, the countryside, picking local fruit from a tree, cooking and eating alot of Vietnamese food! I would definitely recommend this group to anyone seeking to learn more about Vietnam!

BLV is a great way to practise your Vietnamese. There are loads of volunteers who can help you with your pronunciation and the lessons are a lot of fun.
They also organise day trips, which give you an opportunity to see life beyond the centre of Hanoi and any donations go towards projects such as providing resources for rural schools.

Van Anh and all the Vietnamese tutors at BLV are friendly and welcoming.

The (free) Vietnamese lessons on Saturday afternoons are fun and helpful and a good way to meet other ex-pats and Vietnamese living in Hanoi.

They also organise cooking/cultural trips to places around Hanoi, usually to places off the beaten track.

I couldn't recommend this organisation more. They do lots of charity education work so all donations you make go to a great cause. If you are looking for something to do on a Saturday come on down to Better Life Vietnam!
