We regularly order the English bacon, spicy Italian and Maltese sausages, and chicken breasts. Always a super-easy online order, I specify a time, a two hour window works for them, they've never been late. The quality is extremely high, the bacon seems to be dry cured, it doesn't shrink when you cook it. The sausages are amongst the best I've had. The best local company/service we use.

I have given HSG a go recently, largely out of the sheer frustration of visiting several different meat outlets to get everything I am looking for. Since HSG are so far from my home, I used their online delivery service.

Couldn't be happier.

Sure, it took a few goes to get my head around the online ordering system, but once done, I was contacted very quickly to confirm and discuss my order. At the time they did not have any duck so we discussed an alternative. They also didn't have any pork roasts per se but again, we discussed alternatives. I ended up buying about VND1m worth of meat - steaks, pork chops, pork loin, a whole chicken, and some chicken thigh and breast. I have to say, I'm impressed!

The delivery turned up precisely on time and certainly contained more meat than I was expecting! Which was great. The pork chops are huge and cook up really well. The steaks are tender and also cook up well. The whole chicken (2kgs) I roasted last night and proved to be succulent and flavoursome. Just the way we like it!

Ordering from HSG will easily be an 'every couple of weeks' thing as the convenience, service and quality are hard to beat. I'm giving them 4 stars as the key for me will be consistency over time, which is yet to be proven. Prices went up a tad on March 1st - if anyone wants the current price list, PM me and I am happy to share.

Update May 2011
After a few good orders, latest examples of meat have been less than satisfactory. In particular, beef and pork have been quite tough. Poultry remains excellent and I will surely keep ordering chicken and duck from HSG. Downgraded to three stars though.

I have ordered meat from Hanoi Small Goods on 3 occasions now. The service is fantastic. There was a mistake with one order and within an hour they had come back to my house, exchanged the wrong order and fixed the problem. That is great service.

Although the meat is frozen I have found the quality to be quite good. I have tried their boneless lamb leg for a Sunday roast, chicken breast, Australian beef mince and rump steak. It appears the Australian meat comes from Midfield Meat from Warrnambool, Victoria in Australia. This abattoir adheres to strict guidelines and is Halal accredited. The boneless leg of lamb is expensive at 315,000 Dong a kilo but slow roasted with home made mint jelly was lovely.

You can order online and they send a confirmation e-mail with delivery time details. Or you can e-mail Ms Huong who is very helpful and has good English skills.

I've been to Hanoi Smallgoods a couple of times to buy meat, but this is the first time I'd used their free delivery service. Will definitely be getting delivery from now on, it is a great service.

Hanoi Smallgoods offer a huge selection of beef (Australian and local), pork, Australian lamb, chicken, fish, sausages and ham/bacon. Prices are cheaper than the supermarket - eg. Aust Ribeye Steak is 390000 per kilo; it usually costs well over 400k per kilo in the supermarket.
They do lamb chops (320k per kilo), which is a very exciting prospect in my household.

Most products come packed in 500g units, and most are frozen. And mine were still well frozen when they arrived at my house in My Dinh.

You can order online, or give them a call. I put my order in on a Wednesday, and it was delivered on Friday afternoon at my request, but I suspect they could deliver a lot quicker than that if you need.

Ms. Nhu is very knowledgeable and helpful, and will happily answer any questions.

We decided to give Hanoi Small Goods a try because of the good reviews. We went to the address stated to find it was just the office where they take/receive the orders for the meat. I was hoping to view the meat however that wasn't to be. We sat in the office with the very friendly men and was given the meat order book (with pictures and prices). We gave then our order and they sent us on our way stating the meat would be delivered between 4 - 430pm. It did arrive on time nicely packed in an iced bag. Even though we haven't tried the meat as yet it does look fresh. I look forward to dinner tonight. If the meat is as good as the customer service, it will be delicious.
