“i meant to write this review for these guys for a long time. After staying at a house for 4 years, our landlord decided to change a lot of the deals with our house, we started looking for a new house. After spending days looking on the internet, we drove around all the West lake area to find a new ...”
went here for lunch today for the first time. Comparing it to sushi bar, dokoro, and the vast other japanese restaurants in VN, it is pretty great. For 30,000 dong more than dokoro, the kaisen set comes with six or so pieces of tempura, a large pork and potato soup and free dessert vs miso soup, no dessert and no tempura.
The fish in the set was quite good, wish there would have been mackerel but i imagine they change it around and i'd bet mackerel makes an appearance here and there. And it definitely needed some salmon eggs.
the actual restaurant is quite nice and decorative. Also fast and busy for lunch.
Overall a little pricy but the amount of food is pretty spectacular, and it is really close to home, will go again.
Came for the fish, not the biggest tempura fan, something like kaisen chirashi and okonomiyaki, that would be a killer lunch set.
Yesterday had a Bento lunch box set and was amazing, it came with a really well combined assorted bites of sushi, sashimi and other small portions of veggies and miso clam soup....but the best part was the amazing tonkatsu...will say was the best ever tried in Hanoi, It was like to be in Japan... Its a must for the japanese food lovers... the place is clean and have a nice service staff too...
Right in the middle of a street that is mostly unassuming electrical appliance shops is the first unexpected surprise about Ren’s location and walking in the staff attentively greets you in Japanese walking into a well balanced Japanese modern - traditionally designed dining area with dark wooden tables and Japanese paintings on white walls. It’s simplistic yet calming along with the music with bird chirping sounds.
I was forewarned that the food here is quite hearty so you too should have the same expectations and even you come here either with an empty stomach, on a cold rainy day, or both! Well known with Japanese expats, there are a variety of dishes that are popular including deep fried pork and curry udon which I tried. Eyeing other patrons orders, the deep fried pork lunch set seemed to the most popular and just from the couple of dishes I tried I was put into a delightful food coma by the hearty, yet well balanced lunch set.
The prices here are reasonable and I paid about 250,000 vnd for my order which was definitely worth every bit since it was a good size portion of rice, fried pork, salad and soup which all complement one another. Ren is a real treat in that it’s not your average Sushi joint, but probably closer to what typical Japanese fare is in an elevated fashion, yet eaten with the same zest that you can really dig into your food and not worry that that one sushi roll you ate cost $10.
The food is fabulous. We tried an array of sushi rolls and other dishes, most of which were delicate, delicious, and well-presented. The onigiri with salmon was the only odd dish, since the "salmon" bit was a tiny dab of salmon (1/4 of an inch). Other than that, portions and cost is on par with most Japanese restaurants around town, though the quality is very high. A lot of the entrees were in the 150k-400k range.
Service is also very attentive, without being overbearing. The staff can speak English and Japanese. There are two menus, one in Japanese, which has more items, and the other is pictoral. There's a good selection of sake, and the beers are around 50k (Heineken, Sapporo, etc.) Wines are really expensive (500k+, depending on vintage), available either by the bottle or glass.
