Amazing bookstore, the best in Vietnam by far. Anyone new in town you need to check it out, if you've been here awhile check out their new new location.

Taken from the Bookworm website.

"The Bookworm opens into the HCC café courtyard and is now a bookshop and book-cafe

We are open every day from 9 am to 7 pm. Of course we close for important holidays such as Christmas and Tet
The Bookworm has over 10,000 books in stock (click onto books in stock)
At present our customer base comprises about 30% Vietnamese, 40% expat, and 30% travelers.

The management staff speaks fluent English and junior staff has had English language training. Management staff are always available should requests not be comprehended

We pay our staff above average salaries and value their honesty and loyalty

The Bookworm actively supports several charitable organizations. These include the Xa Me Humanitarian Program, the Blue Dragon Children’s Foundation, various eye operation programs for disadvantaged children , Agent Orange causes, and provides scholarships to Hanoi Agriculture University for students from poor rural backgrounds"

I know I'm new to Hanoi and I really do love bookstores but I have no idea why this place is rated so high. I brought in a stack of great novels expected they would pay ok (1/3 as stated) and went looking. So found a few great books but seriously 280k for a paperback novel used? I was payed between 30k to 50k for my books I thought a little low but maybe they sell cheap. So bought books went home came back this week and I saw my old books one for 250k that they gave me 40k and another for 220k that they gave me 30k? I'm not great at math but since they gave me 40k they should have sold at 120k, and 30k sold at 90k. Basically they are riping people off saying we give you a third. Will stick to trading between friends or going through stacks old books in Old Quarter which are always under 100k.

A quiet oasis of books and coffee set away from the street.
Tread down the narrow manicured path beside the cooking school to the rear courtyard that is pleasantly quiet and also sheltered from last weeks cool wind.
The cafe is set up in the courtyard and on this day the bookstore is free of tables, making browsing easy. I had intended to get a book while transiting at Singapore, but the selection there was mediocre. Bookworm may not have a complete inventory of the latest best sellers but there are a few and appear to be many other good reads to keep one going.
Am thoroughly enjoying my selection of a Ken Follett tome - halfway through already.

The owners of this store need to decide what purpose the space is for. Is it a cafe, community center, or a book store? Those looking to drink coffee are very crowded by the people climbing over them to reach the book shelves. Likewise, those looking to buy books are not enthusiastic about squeezing past SUV baby strollers, guitar players, plasticine-on-a-stick-figure makers, and restaurant tables.

What a find!

I didn't frequent the older bookworm location as much as I wanted to.. just because I would always get lost.

The new collaboration between Bookworm and HCC is AWESOME. I can literally spend dayyyss here. Buy a book, and relax in the courtyard (or air conditioned room) with an iced latte.

Truong is a gem. Its always a pleasure to see his welcome smiling face. His knowledge of books astounds me. Their selection is really great, two floors and three rooms worth of new and used books.

Definitely worth multiple visits.
